How to Heal Yourself Emotionally and Mentally

Is your heart heavy? Are emotions and your mental landscape dulling the vibrancy of your sparkle and ability to enjoy life?

Is grief, trauma, or pain from life events of relationships causing your agony?

Perhaps you’re good at pushing the heartache and anguish down deep, so you can continue to go through the motions of living your life. But you’re tired of carrying that heavy weight around.

Hey, I’ve been there too. It’s torturous.

If you’re like me, you want to be free. You want to be filled with light and open up to joy.

I looked to easy fixes to escape the torment, or at least lessen it some. The problem with easy fixes like alcohol, binging on TV, shopping, food, or other short-term distractions is that the misery is waiting for you.

There is a way to heal yourself emotionally and mentally and to awake in the morning with a smile and lightness of spirit. That’s the good news.

The bad news is that it requires effort.

You need to do the work to get the pay.

  1. Nature: the Ultimate Healer

Did you know just spending a day in a forest can boost not only your well-being but your immune system?

Nature is a profound source of healing.

When was the last time you spent an entire day outside?

The first step in healing yourself emotionally and mentally is to spend a day, from sunrise until sunset, outside in nature.

Ideally, you should travel to the ocean, a forest, or the countryside. If this isn’t possible, then select a gorgeous park or even set up in your backyard.

Pack nourishing food and water for the entire day. Resist the temptation to throw in any sugar or fat-filled snacks. Instead, cut up plenty of carrots, cucumbers, red peppers, tomatoes, apples, peaches, or your other favorite fruit and store in containers the night for your Nature Heal Day.

Yogurt and wholegrain oats and fruit is a nourishing breakfast. Nuts, whole grain crackers, wholesome sandwiches, plenty of water, and plenty of water should also be part of your picnic preparation. A thermos filled with your favorite coffee or tea is a must J

Add a blanket, a yoga mat, a hat, sunglasses, a notebook and pen, and one or two inspirational books to your backpack. Next, you can download yoga classes to take with you on your phone.

Stress, grief, and negative emotions can get stored in your body as pain, soreness, tightness, or rigidity in areas such as the hips, lower back, shoulders, neck, and head. Yoga can both strengthen and stretch the body and release stress and grief in through the power of the breathing.

Yoga is a powerful tool to open yourself up to healing and sweet release and is especially powerful when done outside.

Evaluate what you’ve been feeling and your yoga level before you select a yoga class. Are you low on energy and feeling drained? A sweaty power yoga class could be the answer. Are you wound up and can’t find your stop button? A slower paced detox class could be the perfect way to access healing.
