WARNING: DO NOT IGNORE THESE SIGNS YOU ARE HEADING INTO A FULL BURNOUT
Are you on the road to burnout?
Signs of burnout include:
·You feel defeated every day.
·You’re too tired to care about things at work or at home.
·Exhaustion is your constant companion.
·You suffer from boredom or overwhelm at work.
·You feel unappreciated or like what you do doesn’t matter.
·You are beyond caring.
·You find it increasingly difficult to concentrate.
·You are devoid of hope.
·You are disengaging at work, home, or in your social life and isolating yourself more and more.
·You feel a sense of failure.
·You overreact to people and situations.
·You doubt yourself and see no hope that you can improve things. You feel helpless.
·You’ve started neglecting your responsibilities.
·You don’t feel valued, and the work is unrelenting.
·You feel irritable most of the time.
·You don’t feel you have control over your life situation.
ARE YOU HEADED TOWARD A BURNOUT?
Living in the high-stress zone looks like over activity (hyperactivity), over engagement, and not being able to ‘turn off’ even when the workday is over. You can be using the stress hormones to push yourself through fatigue to keep working.
The chronic levels of high stress can cause you to be over-reactive to people and situations.
This could mean that you snap more frequently or lash out at the people around you, or it could mean you are easily hurt and isolate yourself quicker. Although you may experience lower and lower energy, you aren’t burning out, at least not yet.
What happens when you run through all of your stress hormones? Nobody can stay in a high alert stress state forever. At some point, the body and mind begin to collapse, and everything swings 180 degrees.
Whereas before you were over engaging and caring too intensely, now you are increasingly disengaging from your work or life.
Whereas before intense emotions flared at the slightest trigger, now there is a lack of reaction.
Whereas before you were driving forward with intensity, now there is a sense of helplessness or hopelessness. Motivation and empowerment are seeping away to be replaced with resignation and retraction from work, home responsibilities, or relationships.
Whereas before you could summon willpower, now there is no ‘get up and go’ left in the tank. You are exhausted – mentally, emotionally, and physically.

You feel powerless and exhausted – mind, body, and soul – and without hope.
